Did you know the adjustment of a wheel alignment is extremely sensitive and even the smallest amount of contact with a gutter or pothole in the road can affect your wheel alignment? This also can affect the way your vehicle drives and the way your tyres will wear.

When to Get a Wheel

Alignment

At T & A Mechanical Services we recommend having your wheel alignment checked at least every 18 months or 20,000 kilometers; but ideally once a year to maintain handling performance and extend the life of your tyres. It’s also a great idea to get a wheel alignment when:

  • You’re installing new tyres: This is the ideal time to get a wheel alignment because we can do everything at the same time.
  • You’ve driven over a road hazard: Large pot holes or debris can cause your vehicles alignment to be out – we recommend you have your alignment checked if you have encountered any such hazards.
  • Your tyres are getting old: Aging tyres often crack and lose their elasticity. These can cause misalignment and hasten tyre degradation.
  • Having steering/suspension components replaced: the majority of work done when replacing suspension and steering components can alter the alignment of your vehicle. It is essential to have an alignment done after this work is completed.

A simple wheel alignment could save you hundreds of dollars in tyre replacements bills.

Maintenance Tips

Tyre condition dramatically affects the handling and control of your vehicle which puts them high on the list of major safety components on any vehicle. Regular inspections and pressure checks are an absolute must and are an essential part of our checklist for every service.

  • Take Care: Taking the time to take care of your tyres can extend your tyre's life. If possible, keep your tyres and vehicle out of the sun when not in use. This will slow the deterioration of the rubber as it will start to harden and crack quicker the longer the rubber is exposed to the elements. A good tyre shine or rubber care product on the side wall of the tyres can also help protect them. This is to keep the side wall pliable as it needs to be able to flex at all times.
  • Correct Inflation: Keeping a regular check on your tyre's inflation pressure will help improve your vehicle's drivability. The most important reason for having the correct tyre pressure is your safety. Correct pressure also helps with unnecessary tyre wear and tear and poor fuel economy.
  • Wheel Alignment: Regular wheel alignment checks and adjustments will help extend your tyre's life.
